Pourquoi les bouteilles de vin font 75 cl ?
À cause de nos voisins anglais !
étaient nos principaux clients et donc,
Why is a bottle wine 75 cl ? Made in uk !
In the XIXth century, our British neighbours were our main clients for wine export. In order to simplify customs procedures and trade between our two countries, we decided to adapt our metric system to the British one called « Imperial gallon » with 1 gallon is equal to 4.54609 liters. Wine was shipped in casks of 225 liters, which is the equivalent to 300 bottles of 75 cl and 50 imperial gallons. It also leads us to answer another very important question you probably ask yourself, « Why is the standard for cases of wine 6 (or 12) bottles ? » Just a hint, it’s also a question of gallon ! Get your calculators : 4,54 : 6 = 0.75 L !
